Obituary

Elder Alan Dwayne Turner (50) was born December 31, 1965 to the late Willie E. Brown, Sr. and Ms. Emma J. Turner in Freeport, IL. He was called to eternal rest on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Alan came to know Christ at an early age and joined Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Freeport, IL, under the leadership of Superintendent Lynn H. Hawkins where he became an Assistant Pastor. He was ordained as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ in 2005. Elder Turner was faithful in his service to God. He loved his church, he loved people and he loved and respected his pastor. Before his illness he worked at the Freeport School District as a bus monitor for over 20 years. He was involved in the community by serving on the Township Board of Freeport, IL. For a period of time he worked at Structo Manufacturing, Freeport Taxi and owned a business called the Snack Shop. Alan had an infectious smile that touched everyone he met. He was a peace maker and loved to have fun. He loved family celebrations and every now and then he would remind everyone that he had a few moves of his own! The biggest and most important celebration was the day he married the love of his life, Effie Marie Macklin on May 1st 2004. From that moment on two words fell like honey from his lips, “My Wife”. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Effie Turner, one son Johnny Macklin and granddaughter, Jameela Macklin, both of Minneapolis, MN., godson Blake Walker of Freeport Il., his mother, Emma Turner of Freeport, 3 sisters, Kathleen (Jessie) Dixson, Sheila (Stephen) Owens, both of Freeport, IL, Emma Lee Brown, Milwaukee, WI., 3 brothers, Kevin (Marilyn) Turner, Rockford, IL., Robert D. Brown, Landaus, Germany, Lonnie D. Brown, Louisville, KY. , and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his church family. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie E. Brown, Sr., two brothers, Willie Earl Brown, Jr., James Winters, one sister, Daisy May Smith, his grandmother, Angie Hayden Turner and grandfather, Eugene Turner. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday November 5, 2016 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ with Rev. Lynn Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
