Steven Holcomb Obituary
Steven A. Holcomb, age 60 of Lee, FL passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March
29th @ a hospital in Valdosta, GA from complications of MS, which he had lived
with for many years. Steve was born on October 1, 1954 to Wayne and Antonette
(Teofilo ) Holcomb in Green Bay WI and grew up in Appleton. He graduated from
Appleton High School West in 1972. He attended Fox Valley Tech in the automotive
program. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman which ended up luring him to
Alaska on frequent visits. On May 28th,1978 he married Rebecca Steeves in
Appleton,WI. Steve being an adventurist and a free spirit, moved to Alaska with
his new bride where they lived and raised their family for almost 22 years. He
bought a 1040 acre parcel of land and became a hay farmer after clearing it and
building his own house. He had his own hunter's paradise. He moved to Florida in
1999 after starting to struggle with symptoms of MS. And still being a country
boy, Steve and his family settled on a 10 acre farmette. He loved his rural
life. He continued outdoor projects on the farm even from his motorized wheel
chair in the past few years. He adored his grandchildren and they adored their
"papa."
Steve is survived by his wife of almost 37 years, Becky, His
sons, Gabriel Holcomb, and Cain Holcomb, both of Lee, FL. His daughters, Serene
( Matthew) Moss and their children Lily and Wyatt, St. Augustine, FL and
Natalie( Ross) Pickles with a baby on the way, St. Augustine, FL, a sister,
Suzi( Jeff) Perlewitz, Appleton, half-sisters Cora(Dennis) Bell and Karen
Holcomb, both of Appleton, half brothers Norval (Liz) Holcomb, St. Charles, IL
and Richard (Nadine)Holcomb, Appleton. His very special Auntie Clare Otto, Lake
City, FL and his very special nephew, Luke Hassell, Appleton. He is further
survived by his mother- in law, Pauline Steeves,Neenah, brother in- laws,
David(Beth)Steeves, Neenah, Andrew Steeves, Neenah, Paul(Sandy) Steeves,
Appleton and Nathan Steeves , Neenah, sisters- in law, Royalene Trader,
Appleton, Kathy (Eugene ) Wurzer, Combined Locks and Jeanette Steeves, Appleton.
He is also survived by many Teofilo aunts, uncles and cousins, his DeVoe
cousins, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Mary Catherine, his Father in law, John
Steeves, a brother in law, Tom Trader, and an infant son, Abel.
Steve's memorial service will be on Saturday May 16, 2015 at 1:00pm in the Star of Hope
Chapel at Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond St. Appleton with Chaplain
Jordan Kuczwara officiating. Family and friends may call from 12pm until the
time of the service. Inurnment will be in Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting live palm trees or plants that will be
in his honor for years to come and will be planted on his Florida farm. Steve's
project that he was working on at the time of his death, involved planting palm
trees on his land. How fitting he passed away on Palm Sunday. Also, a memorial
fund will be established.
