Rowe Metcalf, Jr.

Rowe Browning Metcalf Jr. died Friday, February 10, in the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. Born March 3, 1925 in Boston, MA, the son of the late Rowe Metcalf Sr. of Greenwich, CT and Mary Sewall of Wiscasset, ME, he attended Dexter school in Brookline, MA and then the Choate School in Wallingford, CT. In World War II he served in the United States Air Force before attending Bowdoin College. He married Rona Mary Roberts of Winchester, MA in 1947. He worked in the family woolen mill business in Providence, RI and NY, moving to Vermont in 1965. He enjoyed many outdoor sports and traveled extensively. In 1979 they retired to Southport where he practiced his love of gardening and was active in the sailing community, serving one term as Commodore of the Southport Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife, Rona Metcalf of Southport; children, Peter Metcalf of Bondville, VT; Tim Metcalf and his wife Celia of North Bennington, VT; Nicola Metcalf and her husband Tom Warnick of Sunderland, MA; granddaughter Fiona Louise Warnick of Sunderland, MA; half-brother Henry Metcalf of Lake City, FL and half-sister Louise O'Keeffe of Pendleton, KY. No formal services are planned. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society.
