Stephen Barkasy Lifelong club steward HAMDEN — Mr. Stephen Barkasy, age 89, of Hamden, passed on to his Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at the West Haven Veterans Hospital. He was the husband of the late Constance Mary (Heroux) Barkasy. Mr. Barkasy was born in Wheeling, W.Va <http://W.Va>. on Feb. 24, 1923, a son of the late Michael and Anna Barkasy. He was retired after working for all of his life as the club steward at the Algonquin Club in Bridgeport, having had the opportunity to meet many celebrities while working there. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Mr. Barkasy is survived by a son, Russell Barkasy and his wife Mary; a daughter, Suzanne Malafronte and her husband Ernest; and grandsons Erik, Greg, Brian and Russell Jr. He was predeceased by three brothers, Michael Jr., Joseph and George. Graveside funeral services and burial with full military honors will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mount St.Peter Cemetery 219 New Haven Ave., Derby. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.
