Howard Brewer Howard Brewer died peacefully in Piedmont, AL on February 20 at the age of 90. Mr. Brewer is survived by his daughter Pamela and Tommy Gaines, of Heflin, & Karen Brewer Cofield. Grandchildren: Juliana Gaines, Mary Kathryn Campbell and husband Bradley, Will Gaines and wife Melissa. Brother in Law Jack Goggans. Numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was born on 08/03/1929 in Henagar, AL to Lawton and Lola Mae Brewer. He graduated from Geraldine High School, Jacksonville State university, and the University of Alabama with a AA in Mathematics. He married Bobbie Goggans, his high school sweetheart, after moving to Fort Knox, Kentucky to begin his career in the US Army. He taught school at the Grove Oak school before service. After graduating from JSU he taught with Anniston School System and at Welbron High School before beginning his career with JSU. He as an active member of West Point Baptist Church and many civic organizations in the community. He helped friends build homes, upon retirement in 1990, he returned to Dekalb County, his home. While there he was Dekalb County Chairman of the Red Cross and a volunteer at the Fort Payne Hospital. He was also a member of Paul's United Methodist Church. In 2005, they moved to be near to grandchildren in Heflin, AL where he quickly became involved in church and community activities. A Funeral is scheduled for 2pm Sunday, February 23, 2020 from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Tenbroeck cemetery. The Family will receive Friends from 12noon until the time of service on Sunday from W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Bro. Jacob Daniel will be officiating. The Family will also be holding a Memorial service for Mr. Brewer at 1pm on Monday, February 24, 2020 from the First United Methodist Church in Heflin. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 11am until the time of service. Rev. Joy Morgan will be officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Howard Brewer's life.
