Robert Hauger Obituary

Robert Henry Hauger, 87, of Irene, SD passed away Sunday, March 09, 2014 at Avera Majestic Bluffs with his family by his side. Robert was born on December 17, 1926 to Henry and Mary Frances (Stark) Hauger at Kimball, SD. At the age of 2 months, he and his family moved to the Irene area. He attended grade school at Sunrise rural School. He graduated from Irene High School in 1944. Robert entered the army in 1945. He was stationed in Germany and Austria. He was discharged in December of 1946. He married Mildred Gran on September 8, 1947 at Lesterville, SD. They moved to Colorado for a short time and then returned to SD and worked for farmers until he started farming in rural Mission Hill. In 1958 they moved to the present farm site near Irene. After retiring they built a new home across the road. Mildred died on January 24, 1998. He married Evelyn Jensen on October 5, 2002. She died on January 1, 2010. Robert was a member of the SD pork Producers. He was on the Pork Council. He showed registered purebred hogs. He won many champions at different hog shows. He was a member of St. Columba Church, (Mayfield) and served on the church council and cemetery board. He also served on Mayfield Township Board for 40 years and was on the Extension Board and a 4-H leader for a number of years. Robert loved animals. He raised cattle and hogs for a number of years. He fell in love with a special dog (Shay) at Majestic Bluffs. He is survived by his son Steve (Ardell) Hauger of Irene and three daughters; Diana (Tom) Thorson of Trempealeau, WI, Lynn (Dan) Dangel of Irene and Patty (Jim) Giggee of Rapid City. He has 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, his sister Doris Sees of Irene and a brother Joe (Shirley) of Tennessee, sister and brother in laws; Elaine Hauger, Anna Mae Hauger and Karen Gran of Yankton, Verdon & Eleanor Christopherson of Sioux Falls, and Robert & Mavis Brinkman of Puyallup, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mildred, second wife Evelyn and a great-grandson Andrew Franz, two brothers; Leo & Linus Hauger, sister Katherine Gillen and an infant sister, also his brother & sister in laws Cletus Gran, Bud Sees and Viggo & Myrtle Henriksen.
