GOODWIN, Nancy L. – 75. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and wife. Nancy succumbed peacefully at home to the debilitating illness (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, on February 2, 2010. Born and raised in Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., Nancy was a daughter of the late Roy and Marian (Giffin) Delaney. In her younger years, Nancy was an employee of the town office at the Yarmouth Courthouse. Later, along with her husband Sam, they established two businesses; Sam Goodwin’s Burner Service and CPH Dry Cleaners Ltd. Nancy enjoyed trailering and travelling in earlier years with her family. She was a huge fan of country and gospel music and her mornings would not be the same without tuning in for a daily dose of “Regis and Kelly”. Being an avid reader, she enjoyed a wide variety of books. Nancy loved to bake and was always trying new recipes. She always looked forward to gatherings with family and friends and spending summer days at her cottage in Beaver River. Nancy led a life of giving and sharing, always thinking and doing for others before herself. Nancy was a long time member of Zion United Baptist Church, where she was active in the Service Guild and Women’s Missionary Society. She also served as a former Deacon as well as a leader for youth groups, Vacation Bible School and Sunday school. Being a former volunteer of the Yarmouth SPCA, Nancy also had a great fondness for animals, particularly cats and dogs. How fortunate were all the stray cats that made their way to her doorstep over the years. Soon after, most would find themselves living a very “pampered” life! Above all else, Nancy’s greatest joy in life came from none other than her eleven cherished grandchildren. With all grandkids in tow, she had embarked on so many wonderful adventures with them over the years as they grew up. Never to be forgotten, is the ever popular Friday night ritual, affectionately known as “family night” which consisted of a simple trip to The Dollar Store and then onto Tim Hortons. This made for great fun and happy memories! Besides her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth (Firth Hepburn), Aylesford, and a daughter in infancy. She leaves behind her husband Sam of 52 years; daughters, Cindy (Ken) d’Eon, West Pubnico; Patti (Gaston) d’Entremont, Yarmouth; Heidi (Allan) Goodwin, Yarmouth; eleven grandchildren: Brandon and Alicia, Halifax; Kaitlin, Antigonish; Cody, Ottawa; Whitney, Jenna and Abbey, Yarmouth; Cara, Ashley, Courtney and Chelsea, Yarmouth; brother, Paul Delaney, Mesa, Arizona. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation by family request. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 6, at 2 p.m. from Zion United Baptist Church with Rev. Don Moses and Rev. Brian Wallace officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to the Tri-County VON or the ALS Society of Nova Scotia.
