Robert L. "Gabby" Hartman, 72, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at St. Catherine’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kenosha on August 28, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman and Irene (Schloemer) Hartman. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. On February 14, 1959, he married Audrey Johnson at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church. After graduation from High School, he signed a contract to play professional baseball with the Milwaukee Braves. From 1955 until 1963 he played with the Milwaukee Braves, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Athletics. He later became the Program and Sports Director for PYC/CYC, spanning over 20 years. During that time, Bob founded the Little Guys & Little Gals Sports Programs which still exist today. In the early 1970’s, Bob served 6 years for the community as the Clerk of Circuit Courts. He later worked at Community Impact Youth Programs until his retirement. Bob was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Assoc., the Danish Brotherhood, President of the Greater Kenosha Youth Baseball and Softball Assoc., and the WI & American Diabetes Assoc. Bob was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, former member of the Western Kiwanis of Kenosha, the Old Timers Baseball Club, and Past President of the Local Diabetes Association. Bob was the biggest, lifelong Boston Celtics fan. He enjoyed watching The Kentucky Derby from his clubhouse seats of more than 50 years. He was a huge fan of Whitewater Warhawk Football, Bradford Baseball & Softball, and Kenosha Cyclones. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and he loved to take spontaneous trips throughout Wisconsin. Bob loved New Orleans, music, dancing and especially spending time with his grandchildren and attending their various activities. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Audrey; three daughters, Christine (Steve) Allemand, Suzanne (Dave) Walker, and Allyson (Randy) Barnes, all of Kenosha; and his six grandchildren, Nathan, Logan, Chelsey, Makenzie, Bradley and Trevor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Hartman. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 21st, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
