Leroy Junior (Sonny) Queen was born on March 3, 1931 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Jack and Nola (Spencer) Queen. He grew up in the Omaha area where he attended grade school and High School. Lee enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served until 1954. It was during this time that Lee lost his arm. Lee married Nancy Comer in 1955 in Decatur, Illinois, Macon County. Lee and Nancy were blessed with three children: Suzanne, Robert and Joseph. Lee had lived in Decatur, Illinois, Joliet, Illinois, Anchorage, Alaska and Santa Ana, California before moving back to Omaha. He later moved to Valley, Nebraska and finally in Omaha. Prior to military service, Lee worked as a sheet metal worker. After the military, Lee worked as a night watchman, as a gas station attendant at Elmendorf Air Force Base and as a Merchandise Stock Coordinator for Millron Company. After he moved to Omaha in the late 1970’s , Lee’s life changed by the grace of God when he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. He was a compassionate, positive man who shared love with everyone. He loved Jesus and modeled his life after him. Lee is known for his signature greeting “ Has anyone told you today that you are loved, special and needed”. Lee passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Nola, sisters Darlene June Hotz and Donna Lou Queen and brothers Keith Queen and Lyle Dean Queen. Lee is survived by his daughter Suzanne Wickline of Dayton, OH; sons Robert and Joseph both of California; brother Ronald of Albuquerque, NM and 3 grandchildren. Flag Queen, Leroy “Sonny” age 79 of Omaha formerly of Valley; Survived by daughter Suzanne Rene Wickline of Dayton, OH; sons Robert and Joseph both of California; brother Ronald of Albuquerque, NM and 3 grandchildren; Visitation Sunday noon to 4 PM at the funeral home. Funeral Monday 11 AM at Lifegate Church formerly Trinity (156th and Dodge). Interment Prospect Hill; memorials to Prison Fellowship or Goodnews Prison and Jail Ministries.
