Cynthia Harvin

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Our beloved, Mrs. Cynthia Yvonne Mack Harvin, gained her wings and entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. She was a loving Christian, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Cynthia Harvin was born June 15, 1951 to the late James and Earnestine Smalls Mack. She was reared in the home at 131 Providence Street, Sumter, SC. Cynthia attended public schools in Sumter County, SC. She is a 1969 graduate of Lincoln High School. Mrs. Harvin furthered her education at Western Kentucky University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration on May 7, 2002. Cynthia married Calvin Harvin on March 13, 1971. To their union three children were born, Calvin Rondell, Kenon Darmaine, and Quenisha Sayetta. In later years, two grandchildren were added to the union, Calvin Joseph and Aubrey Yvonne. Cynthia Harvin was a faithful member of St. James United Methodist Church, Sumter, SC. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Grant Hill Baptist Church, Dalzell, SC. Mrs. Harvin served faithfully until her untimely death. Through the years, Mrs. Harvin enthusiastically served in many areas of ministry including Vice President and President of the United Methodist Women; Usher Board President; Youth Advisor and Choir Director. Mrs. Harvin deeply cared about all children at St. James and in the community. She taught them many life lessons and how to sing with uplifting voices to the Lord. She faithfully sang on the Voices of St. James Choir; the Tonettes; Blessed; and the St. James Praise Team. In addition to St. James, Cynthia served in the Household of Ruth, Sumter Tent and as a member of the NAACP. After high school, Cynthia became employed with Rubye J. Johnson Head Start. Mrs. Harvin served Head Start for more than 45 years. She worked tirelessly to help children and families get a head start. Mrs. Harvin received several awards and recognitions for her commitment to serving the Head Start Agency and others in need. She had an unselfish spirit and supported any and everyone she could. She will be forever remembered for her generous and benevolent spirit and commitment to serving others. Cynthia is survived by her husband, Calvin Harvin; son Calvin Rondell; daughter, Quenisha Sayetta; grandson, Calvin Joseph; granddaughter, Aubrey Yvonne; eight siblings, Jeanette (Thomas) Sumpter; Valeria “Chris” Jones; Lillie (David) Coleman; James (Gwen) Mack, Jr.; Virgil (Sheila) Mack; Tonya Faye Mack; Reginald (Toni) Mack; and Veronica Ann Mack; three brother-in- laws, Pressley (Melody) Harvin; Willie (Janice) Harvin; Norris (Marie) Harvin; three sister-in-laws, Mamie (Stanley) Black; Virginia (Ricky) Williams; two uncles, Clifton Mack and Walter Simon; one Aunt, Azalea (James) Williams; special friends, Barbara Cantey Brock Armstrong, O’Della Gallishaw, Annie Mae Green, Shanetra Green, and Barbara Porter; special cousins, Mary Ann Johnson and Peggy Middleton; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, classmates, and friends. Mrs. Harvin is preceded in death by her parents, James and Earnestine Smalls Mack; a brother, Ronald Benjamin Mack; and a son, Kenon Darmaine Harvin.
