Memorial services for John will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, with the memorial service at 1:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Chisholm. John Charles Charter, Jr., 61, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. John was born on December 16, 1953, in Marquette, Michigan, to Margaret and John Charter, Sr. A varsity hockey, football, and baseball player for the Chisholm Bluestreaks, John grew up in Chisholm, MN, and graduated from Chisholm High School in 1972. He graduated from Mankato State University in 1977. On June 11th of that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Rita Costanzi, and since then they have made their home in Hibbing. John retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota in 2014. An avid and excellent golfer, John was a member of Mesaba Country Club, a former member of the Hibbing Curling Club and the Hibbing Elks Lodge, and a volunteer donor and driver for the Memorial Blood Center. In years past, he was active as a parent volunteer for St. Leo’s School, Boy Scouts of America, Hibbing Band Parents Association, and Hibbing Boys’ Varsity Swimming. All of these activities, along with spending time at the cabin on Little Sturgeon with family and friends, brought him great joy, as did following his son’s career in broadcasting. John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rita; their son, Mark Dominic of Bismarck, ND; his parents, Peggy and John Charter of Fort Myers, FL; brothers, Michael (Terri) Charter and Daniel (Lauri) Charter of Chisholm; sisters, Susan Charter of Buffalo, MN, and Catherine Charter of New Mexico. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Victoria Costanzi; god-daughter and niece, Jessica Kangas; several other nieces and nephews; and a wealth of golfing buddies and friends.
