HOULTON - Terry Leigh Saunders, 74, died on October 26, 2016 in Houlton. He was born January 1, 1942 in Houlton, the son of Ralph & Joyce (Lambert) Saunders. Terry graduated from Houlton High School in 1960, attended the University of Maine-Orono and graduated from the University of Tampa. He was a veteran SSGT in the US Air Force and did tours in Vietnam and Guam. Terry was an excellent chess player and at one time was flown all over the country by the USAF to compete in other chess championships. He owned and operated Trolley Car Ceramics in Las Vegas, then became a massage therapist, studying in China, spent a year volunteering in New Orleans after Katrina and was an ordained minister. Terry is survived by his daughter, Darcy Leigh Saunders of Dallas, TX; his sister, Penny Saunders Nevers of Houlton; 2 nephews, Gregory and Christopher and 2 close friends, Philip Herrick and David Vincent. He was predeceased by his parents. The Family would like to thank Billie Jo Davis and Charles Hawkes at Billie's Arch for their excellent care of Terry. Friends may call 12-1 pm, Thursday, November 3rd at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Oakfield folllowed by a full military honors funeral service with Rev. Sterling Lawrence officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Houlton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry's memory to Cary Library to purchase books on the subject of UFOs or to the Houlton Humane Society.
