Edna L. Scheidemantle, age 83, of Middle Lancaster Twp., PA, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020. Born February 4, 1937 in New Martinsville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Yetta Baker Jacobs.
As the oldest of nine boys and three girls, she always said she wouldn’t take all the money in the world for any of them. She was very much a family person, and had four children of her own who she loved more than life. Edna’s family was her heart.
She was first married to Luther C. Koach on April 2, 1955, who preceded her in death on September 29, 1977. She then married W. Kenneth Scheidemantle, who preceded her in death on February 19, 2013. She was also preceded in death by a son, Brent Koach, in 1983; a grandson, Nikki, in 1977; a great-grandson, Dakota, in 1999; and three brothers, Jeffrey Jacobs (1973), Dennis Jacobs (1996) and Paul Jacobs.
Edna was a Christian, believed in God, loved Him, and loved and prayed for others. She was a member of the Lillyville Church of God since age 18, and over the years taught the following Sunday School Classes: Senior Bible, Edith Lightfritz, Pairs & Spairs, Pals, Junior Boys & Girls, and Primary Boys & Girls. She was also a Bible School leader and teacher, a Junior Sunday School Superintendent, Deaconess, and headed up apple butter making for several years. She was also the leader of the older Youth Group which staged plays, was an active member of the Quilting Circle, an active member and president of the W.C.S.C., and led a women’s Thursday morning bible study group.
Edna was very interested in History, the people, the wars, our country and genealogy. She also attended several night courses at different colleges on writing and developing film, etc.
She was a member of the Fombell Historical Society and a member of the Lancaster Township Historical Records Committee. Edna was the president of the Lancaster Society when it was organized from 1999 to 2013. She was also involved in the History Harmony Society.
She is survived by her son, L. Scott (Tammy Jo) Koach of Harmony; her daughters, Cindi (Rich) Baer of Portersville and Tammie Nicklas of Harmony; five grandchildren, Jeffrey DeFonde, Lori (Jeremy McConnell) DeFonde, Joan Kuglics, Dillon Koach, and Tyler Koach; four great-granddaughters, Dakota Lynn, Morgan Laskowsky, Melody Nist and Kyla Koach; three great-great granddaughters, Riley, Lilly and Nora Lee; her sisters, Shelby Hall and Sonja (Mark) Boots, both of the Ellwood City area; her brothers, Wayne (Pat) Jacobs, Larry (Barb) Jacobs, David (Joyce) Jacobs, Keith (Docia) Jacobs, Jay (Terry) Jacobs, and Mark (Anita) Jacobs, all of the Ellwood City area; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Jacobs, Virginia Jacobs and Grace Hufnagel.
Friends will be received on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Boylan Funeral Home, Inc., 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, PA 16063.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the Lillyville Church of God, 408 Hickernell Rd., Ellwood City, PA 16117.
Edna will be laid to rest at the Lillyville Church Cemetery.
