Samuel Gordon Howard

Mr. Samuel Gordon Howard, III, 73, of Fayetteville passed away February 14, 2020 with his family by his side. Samuel was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 10, 1946, to the late Samuel Gordon, II, and Dorothy Ray Howard. He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra Howard; daughters, Christi (Brad) Hoolahan, and Jessica (Mike) Kennedy; son, Josh Howard; grandchildren, Graham Scott, and Miles and Mallory Kennedy; his sister, Janet (Rickey) Adamson; and a host of extended family. Sam has always had an adventurous spirit, loved life, and lived every day knowing it was a gift. He attended Lakeshore High School and graduated Atlanta Technical College as an electrician. He would go on to meet and marry the love of his life and start a family. Sam was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 613. He retired in 1986 when he became the recipient of a heart transplant. Following his transplant, he continued to live life to the fullest being an avid outdoorsman, scuba diver, and taking on a deep involvement and commitment with the Boy Scouts of America. In 2013, Sam received a second heart transplant. Following this, Sam gained his greatest strength from his family and grandchildren, which were his greatest pride and joy. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home on Monday, February 17, 2020, at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the funeral services on Monday at Camp Memorial in Fayetteville.
