Walter E. Gilmore, 82 Walter E. Gilmore, 82 of Ashland passed away, Friday, February 14, 2020 in his home with his family by his side. He was born on November 8, 1937 in Clarington, Ohio to the late Reese and Eva (nee Saffle) Gilmore. Walt graduated from Clarington High School, Class of 1955. He married the former Patricia Jean Buterbaugh on September 16, 1961. Walt was employed for more than 20 years at Ashland Rubber Products. He would later go on to work at Fryman’s Marathon for an additional 13 years, and Advanced Auto Parts having retired only two years ago at the age of 79. He was a devoted member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon, choir member, a pastor of visitation, and played fast pitch softball on the church league. Walt also served as a delegate for the church at the brethren annual conference and Samaritan Hospital chaplain for many years. In his private life, he enjoyed bowling at both Luray and King Lanes and playing golf. Walt was a long-time member of the Ashland Evening Lion’s Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jean Gilmore of Ashland; two daughters, Jennifer (Randal) Recker of Ashland and Deana Gilmore of Ashland; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Matthew Recker both of Ashland; two sisters, Ada (Scott) McPeek of Sardis, Ohio and Debbie (Larry) Artrip of Mansfield; and two brothers, Reverend Vernon (Velma) Gilmore and Bob (Karla) Gilmore both of Ashland. In addition to his parents, Walt is preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Gilmore and Janet Case. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Steve Keib officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday, February 17, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The Ashland Evening Lion’s will perform services at the conclusion of the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, Youth Fellowship Mission Fund, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
