Obituary
Marilyn Monica Riggs, 60, of Olney, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at her residence. Marilyn was born on June 20, 1959 in Tacoma, Fort Lewis, WA., the daughter of Lawrence A. Sr. and Hermelinde (Kuhnel) Steinke. Marilyn lived in Germany where her father was stationed during her adolescent years. She attended elementary school in Germany and later Virginia where her father was stationed. After his retirement, they moved to Cisne, IL where Marilyn attended high school and graduated in 1977. After graduating high school, Marilyn came to Olney where she met and married the “love of her life”, Bill Riggs and where they would raise their family. Marilyn attended OCC, obtaining an associate degree in accounting and then DeVry University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Shortly after graduating, Marilyn and Bill started their family business, Marilyn’s Liquor Cabinet. Marilyn loved working alongside their son and looked forward to interacting with and serving their customers. Marilyn had several hobbies she enjoyed with Bill, raising Golden Retrievers and Pomeranians, her many flowers throughout the house, collecting Noah’s Ark figurines, crocheting and sewing, having made several of her dresses, etc. Marilyn also enjoyed motorcycle riding and occasional camping trips with her husband Bill and son Martin. Marilyn also enjoyed and looked forward to her annual trip during Valentine’s week to Jamaica with Bill. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Bill; daughter, Bridget (Phillip) Bryant and their children Terrence, Monica, Angel, and Sierra; son, Martin (Lindi) Riggs and their children Mason and Jeremiah. She is also survived by her Brother-in-laws, Mike Riggs, of Olney, Lynn (Jennifer) Riggs, of Huntsville, AL, and Pat (Annettia) Riggs, of Olney; Sister-in-law, Kathy (Joe) Petty, of Bridgeport, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry; mother-in-law, Julietta “Babe” Roth; and sister-in-law Patti Riggs. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or Claws and Paws. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney, with burial following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
