Funeral services for Richard Lee Whittington, age 70 of Columbia will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 16, 2020 from the sanctuary of Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Duke and Rev. Todd Whittington officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Saturday February 15, 2020 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Richard Lee Whittington was one of six siblings born to Harry Richard “Sonny” Whittington and Johnnie Lea Whitten Whittington. He passed from this life on February 13, 2020 at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria following an extended illness. Richard was a heavy equipment operator and retired with the LaSalle Parish Police Jury. He was preceded in death by his father and by his brother, Larry Dean Whittington. He was an avid deer hunter and fishermen. He loved rabbit hunting and loved to cook. Those left to cherish a lifetime of memories are the mother of his children, Darlene Whittington; his mother, Johnnie Whitten Whittington; his son, Rev. Todd Whittington (Dody); his daughter, Miranda Lee Meredith; brother, Harry Whittington (Linda); sisters: Sharron Hammond (Larry), Brenda Moseley (Jerry), Ruby Barrett (Chuck), and his beloved grandchildren: Ethan Whittington, Kaylee Meredith, Jaycie Meredith, Chance Meredith, Savannah Meredith and Jordan Meredith. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Barrett, Spencer Barrett, Dustin Wyant, Charles Lee May, Craig McMullen and Justin McMullen.
