Debra “Deb” Mercer, 68, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines on Thursday, February 13, 2020 with her family at her side. Funeral services for Deb will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A public visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Care for Deb and her family have been entrusted to Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on November 25th, 1951, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Clifford and Helen (Lamb) Huffaker. She graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1970. On August 13, 1977, she was united in marriage to Larry Mercer. The two shared 42 years together at the time of his passing. They made their home in St. Anthony, Rhodes and Marshalltown. She was employed as the Deputy City Clerk for the town of Melbourne. She worked this position until her retirement in 2019. In her free time, Deb was a member of the Melbourne and Rhodes First Responders. She passed the time crocheting, reading, and if you asked her, the first and most important hobby was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Amanda Mercer (John Morton) and Angela (Steve) Gibbs of Melbourne and their children Abra (Justin) Dougherty of Rhodes, Karis (Cpl. Trenton) Keislar of Camp Pendleton, CA and Stone Gibbs of Melbourne; brothers, Loren Huffaker and Walter (Leona) Huffaker all of Marshalltown, sisters Sandra Thompson of Marshalltown and Gloria (Gary) Boone of Gladbrook, brother-in-law Steve (Marg) Mercer of Ames, sister-in-law Nancy Mercer of Rhodes, Two great- grandchildren and one on the way, and many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Deb rejoined her husband Larry, who passed away last year, her parents, sister-in-law Kay Huffaker, brother-in-law Bill Thompson, brother-in-law John Mercer and sisters-in-law Jane, Donna and Frances.
