Winston R. Pearson was called eternal rest on Friday February 14, 2020. He was born on June 21, 1925 to the late Peter Vernon Pearson and Elizabeth Caladith Bracy. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He had been a faithful member for 70 years.
He graduated from I.C. Norcom High and was drafted in the Army in 1943.He retired from the Army Reserves as Master Sergeant E8.
He studied at Howard University and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science/Economics from North Carolina Central University and a Masters in Public Administration from New York University.
Winston was initiated into Beta Gamma Chapter at North Carolina Central in 1949 and was one of ten founders of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.Epsilon Nu Lambda Chapter in Portsmouth, VA.
Winston was united in holy matrimony with the late Laura V. Brown. Blessed from that union were Anita, Winston and Andrea.
He was employed by the City of Portsmouth as Director of Community Development and later founded Pearson and Pearson Reality with his brother, Earl Pearson.
He was the youngest housing manager for Jeffrey Wilson Homes,Ida Barbour and Carver Homes in 1954.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Winston (Ava) VA Beach, two daughters, Anita(Chesapeake, VA) Andrea (Hayattsville, Maryland); two sisters, Bernice Vaughan, Portsmouth, VA, and Maud Pearson Green,(El Cerrito, CA,a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law, Gloria Pearson McDaniel; two grandsons,Bryan (Andriana) and Devin; two great -granddaughters; Kaylen and Maya. In addition to his parents, ten siblings predecease him.
He enjoyed all types of music, reading, reciting poetry and making people laugh. His favorite poem was “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley.
