Mary Elizabeth Armentrout Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Armentrout

Mary Elizabeth Armentrout, 78, a resident of the Chenoweth Creek Community, Elkins, passed from this life early Friday morning February 14, 2020, at home. Mary was born Monday, January, 5, 1942, in Whitmer, a daughter of the late Charles William Armentrout and Goldie Elizabeth Bodkin Armentrout. Mary was raised in Glady and attended the Glady two room school until fifth grade until the family moved to Glenmore. She graduated from Elkins High School in 1960. Later that year she was employed at C&P Telephone as a phone operator patching calls through on the old time switch board. A few years back while visiting the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., she found herself explaining to everyone how to operate the switchboard that was on display. Often she would reflect on that and laugh as she realized her age. Mary was previously married to Carl Costello Campion. She had two children, Carl Chris Campion and Clorinda, and Katherine “Kathy” Campion Eskew and husband Gary, all of the Chenoweth Creek Community, two grandchildren, Benjamin Tyler Parsons and Katelyn “Katie” Campion, great-granddaughter, Kaylin Marie Parsons, whom she adored, sister, Sharon Armentrout Blosser and husband Jim of Elkins, several nieces and nephews, and faithful companion Dale Kerns. Preceding Mary in death besides her parents was an infant sister, Dorothy Ann Armentrout one brother, Charles Hubert Armentrout, and one brother in law, Chriss Kiess. Mary enjoyed gardening. She was able to cross pollenate honeysuckles to come up with new colors. She also enjoyed playing music, traveling, square dancing, oil painting, wood carving, and spending time with her family. Mary was the owner of Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio in Elkins for years and her motto was “all women can be beautiful”. She had been an EMT with Randolph County Emergency Squad. She worked at Hiawatha’s with her granddaughter Katie and she operated the concession stand for the Tygart Flyer train with her grandson Tyler. Her most recent hobby was exploring minerals and digging fossils. Once on a trip to Myrtle Beach she saw a store called “Fossil” and was so excited to see what kind of rocks they had for sale, only to find out it was only purses. Mary attended the Rivers of Living Water in Elkins. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, February 18, 2020, from 11 am until 1 pm, the funeral hour. Pastor Mike Boggs will officiate and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.
