Gerard Summa Rye, New York Obituary

Gerard Summa

Gerard Andrew Summa, age 80, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2020, at home in Rye, New York. Gerry was born on August 2, 1939, in New York, New York, to parents Evelyn and Vito Summa. After Archbishop Stepinac High School (White Plains, NY), and time in the United States Marine Corps, he served 20 years as a police officer with the Port Chester Police Department. As a Patrolman he genuinely enjoyed walking the beat and liked working traffic best. He was a proud member of the Blue Knights motorcycle division, where he could be seen leading the Columbus Day parade on top of his blue Harley Davidson. A quintessential entrepreneur, Gerry successfully owned and operated a wide array of domestic and international businesses after his public service, among them was Freddie’s Limousine Service, which he owned with his wife, Maureen, for over 30 years. After his motorcycle days were through, Gerry could be seen around Port Chester and Rye riding his moped (flames helmet and all) as he frequented many local establishments, but in particular, his home-away-from-home: DaDa’s. In retirement, Gerry was an avid supporter of many sports, watching as many hockey, soccer, baseball, women’s basketball, and football games (as well cycling and Formula One events) as he could. His family and friends will always remember him as a gregarious, family-oriented, work-a-holic who was keen to help friends and strangers alike in whatever way he could. Gerard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maureen; his sons, David, Christopher, Marc, and Douglas; his daughter, Jennifer; and 13 beautiful grand- and great-grandchildren. A wake is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2020, from 4pm to 8pm at Graham Funeral Home in Rye, New York. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 10am at Church of the Resurrection in Rye, New York. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerry's life. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
