Roger Stanley

LaGrange - Roger Stanley passed peacefully February 13, 2020, surrounded by his wife of 50 years and his children. Roger was born in Milo on October 14, 1948, the son of Willis and Vivienne (Decker) Stanley. Roger graduated from Old Town High School in 1967. He served in Vietnam with the 196th Infantry Brigade. Roger spent his career with the State of Maine, working with both the Departments of Transportation and Conservation. He was extremely proud of his 40 years with the LaGrange Fire Department, where he served as fire chief for most of those years. Roger married Marlene Strout on August 22, 1970, in LaGrange. They had three children, Brian Stanley and his partner, Lee Desiderio, of Portland, Michelle Pennington of LaGrange, and Kenneth Stanley and his wife, Rachelle, of Standish. They have five grandchildren, Kenneth Pennington of LaGrange, Haley Pennington and her boyfriend, Micheal Krug, of Milo, Roslin Desiderio of Oakland, and Benjamin and Ethan Stanley of Standish. Roger is also survived by two brothers, Willis Stanley and his wife, Sharon, of North Carolina and Robert Stanley of Glenburn; and a brother-in-law, George Strout and his wife, Carleen, of Medway. He was especially close to three cousins, Marie Drinkwater and her husband, Arthur, Timothy Boobar, and his wife, Debra, all of Medford, and Mark Boobar and his girlfriend, Diane, of LaGrange. Roger considered Corey Roberts to be an honorary son. Roger was also survived by beloved family members, as well as numerous friends, and his beloved dog, Lacey. Roger was predeceased by his mother, father, and two brothers, Delwin Stanley and Harvey Stanley. He was also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, George and Ava (Waterhouse) Strout. Friends are invited to call from 1:00 pm until time of a memorial service at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 20, 2020, at the Lary Funeral Home, 31 Elm Street, Milo. A reception at the Stanley residence will follow the service. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.

My heart goes out the Marlene and her children. Ed and I had been friends with Marlene and Roger for 50 years and spent ALOT of time at each others homes when we lived in LaGrange. Roger was a good man and he will be missed. Praying that God will bring you comfort!
