Clarence C. Smith, age 94, passed away Thursday, February 13. 2020 at his home in Warren, Michigan. Clarence was born on January 28, 1926 in Caseyville, Illinois to Clarence Cecil and Isabel Smith. As a young child the family moved to Detroit. He served in the US Army during WWII from March 1944 through June 25, 1946. After the war he began his lifetime career in the automotive industry working as a draftsman at Packard Motors, American Motors Corporation then retiring from Chrysler in November of 1988. Later working for Modern Engineering for 5 years. Clarence loved water skiing, boating and vacations at the lake with family. He loved teaching the kids how to water ski. Favorite pastimes were working on cars and watching sports on TV. He especially enjoyed watching NASCAR. Clarence is survived by Frances Josephine Smith, his wife of over 70 years; his daughters: Debbie Matijow, Denise Smith and Diane Storrs; grandsons: Kevin (Beth) Rochester, Matt Rochester, Daniel (Nina) Rochester, Steve (Stefanie) Storrs and Kenneth Storrs; great grand-children: Gavin, Owen, Vincent, Tenley, Rylan and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his sister Jacquelen Tauck. Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 39 W. Burdick, Oxford on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 11-3 PM, with a funeral service following at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
