Ione Ostergard, age 92, of Freeport, IL peacefully passed away at her home where she resided the last 60 years and into her eternal home and the loving arms of her Savior Thursday night, February 13, 2020. Her last days were surrounded by the love of her family and the wonderful care of FHN Hospice staff and volunteers. Ione was the daughter of Samuel and Mabel Korf of Harper, IL born July 28, 1927 in Ellsworth, MN. She married Edward K. Ostergard of Freeport, IL on April 28, 1951, at Baileyville Baptist Church. Eddie passed away March 13, 2002. It is expected that there will be pie in Heaven for his birthday this week! She is a founding member of Shannon Baptist Church since 1962 where she served in many areas of ministry. She especially enjoyed singing. She worked at Micro Switch, Newell Manufacturing, and Crum and Forster Insurance Company. In her later years, she was a caregiver and companion to many elderly homebound. She enjoyed hosting meals for family and friends, baking pies, reading, memorizing Scripture, and praying for her family. She loved life and adored all of her grandchildren. Although homebound, she looked forward to spending time on her iPad being connected to the daily life and many adventures of her family through social media and phone calls. Surviving her are five sisters: LaVonne McDaniel, Leila McDaniel, Mary Ann Runte, Joan Kelly, Naomi (Bill) Law; three sons: Stephen (Leila) of Shannon, IL, Daniel (Laura) of Stewartville, MN, Tracy (Kari) of Rochester, MN; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dearest friends. In addition to her parents and her husband of 52 years, she was preceded in death by seven brothers-in-law, a dear sister-in-law, Jean Ostergard, and a precious grandson, Jacob Daniel. She will be dearly missed and treasured in the hearts of those she loved. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, at Shannon Baptist Church, 101 N. Broad St. in Shannon, IL with Pastor Tim Lehman officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, February 17, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. A memorial fund is being established for hospice.
