Joseph Horvath Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Horvath, 94, passed away Thursday February 13, 2020 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, New York. He had been residing in Red Hook, New York with his long-time companion Martha Husted for many years. Born October 18, 1925 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to parents Joseph Horvath and Anna Ferenscak. Joe was a World War II veteran of Army Air Forces. At just 19 years old Joe served aboard the Liberator as an arterial gunner. He was flying his 13th mission when his plane was shot down. Several parachutes were seen leaving the plane but Joe was separated from his crew-mates and went missing in action for some time. It was later discovered Joe had been taken as a P.O.W where he remained until the end of the war. Joe distinguished himself as a capable and experienced airman and was awarded the Air Medal of honor. Joe was a retired insurance broker who owned and ran his own agency in Connecticut for many years. Joe was an avid golfer, liked bowling, enjoyed fishing with his grandson and also got a lot of pleasure from going out to dinner, attending the opera and doing other social activities with his friends. He is survived by daughter Cynthia Fessenden of Maine, son Wesley Horvath of Connecticut, grandchildren Georgia, Stephanie and Kyle as well as several great-grandchildren. A memorial service and celebration of life will be arranged for a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY.
