Eudora Mary Brown

Eudora Mary Brown

Eudora Mary (Jarvis) Brown, age 86, died on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at her home in Mustang. She was born April 25, 1933 to Dessie and Elmer Jarvis. There was no hospital or doctor but a midwife who was a good friend of the family. Her family was living at the Old Globe Camp in Cushing, OK. Eudora was the eldest of ten children. She was born following the Great Depression, jobs were scarce and many families, including hers, were struggling to keep their heads above water. Her earliest memories are of living up on the hill, as it was the highest part of the little town. The neighbor had a goldfish pond in their back yard which seemed to catch her attention, for she toppled into it more than once. One time with an old red stocking cap that turned the water red. When the United States got involved with WWII, her father got a job with the Santa Fe Railroad. At that time, there were five children, so he was classified as 4F in the draft, and didn’t have to go. He was re-classified at a later date but the war ended. However, the railroad wasn’t critical in Cushing anymore, so the family transferred to Emporia, KS and this is where Eudora finished school, met her husband and had her children and moved to Oklahoma City. Before moving though, a neighbor lady invited Eudora to church with her family and she found the Lord during this time. She would get up on Sunday morning and walk a mile or more to church and back. She taught Sunday School in the children’s department for many years and served in other areas. She has been a member of Mustang Nazarene Church for many years. Shortly after Eudora and Don were married, he received a notice from the draft board. He passed his physical and was off to serve in the Korean conflict. He was gone for fifteen months and during that time Eudora lived with Don’s mother and grandfather and worked for Hallmark cards, in several different positions. After he came home, they bought some lots and a two story old house. With the help of her father and others, tore the house down and rebuilt on those lots. When Don was offered a job in the home building business in OKC, they bought a new home a block from the school, which made it very convenient for Eudora to participate in activities going on, the most time consuming was girl scout leader. Money started getting tight, mostly because of bad weather and housing slump, so she went to work for Western Electric/AT&T for 22 years. During this time, Don started his own business. That created a parking problem at their place, so she started looking for acreages to build a new house with lots of space. It has been her home for over 40 years. Eudora is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald Lloyd, Marion Dale, Roland Wayne and Ronald Irvin. She is survived by her husband Don, children Donita Sue Iker and husband Phil, Debra Jean Hamby, Mark Alan Brown and wife Sandra; four grandchildren Nekoda Iker, Lori Cook, Lasha Strickland and Amy Seck; nine great grandchildren, Aziz Seck, Skye Williamson, Landon Cook, Parker Cook, Caitlyn Cook, Alixander Strickland, Oliver Strickland, Grey Strickland and Maddox Strickland. Also by one brother Theron Leon; four sisters, RosaLea Lambert, Leona Ruth Sparks, Elmira Lorene Martone and Joyce Hammond and Clyde. Services for Eudora will be held 10am, Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Mustang Nazarene Church, 700 E. State Hwy. 152, Mustang, OK with interment at Resthaven Memory Gardens, OKC.
