Mrs. Veronica Daniels

VERONICA ELIZABETH DANIELS February 22nd, 1932 – February 23rd, 2017 It is with extremely broken hearts and great sadness that our family announces the passing of our loving Mother and Baba, Veronica Daniels, unexpectedly on the morning of February 23, 2017, with her family by her side at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Veronica was born in Fort William on February 22nd, 1932. She had just celebrated her 85th birthday, at her home on Amethyst Crescent, the evening before her passing. She shared it with most of her family and enjoyed it immensely. Veronica was raised in Thunder Bay where she met the love of her life and soul mate, John Daniels. They were married on July 10th, 1947 and shared 50 years together. They remained in Thunder Bay and had eight children. One infant child, son Terry Daniels, predeceased them in 1954. They raised seven children and she loved her family dearly. Their home was always open for family and friends or for out of town guests, a meal or just a cup of coffee. Veronica made time for everyone and always had a great sense of humour, even up until the very end. She loved to cook and was a great cook at that. Once we were all older, Mom followed her love of cooking and went to college, successfully receiving her Chef Diploma. Veronica had such a passion for cooking and a desire to help others. She opened her own restaurant and called it Vi's Kitchen. She was very successful and was well known for her great cooking. Veronica and her husband John spent many enjoyable years travelling to Grand Portage for nights of Bingo and playing slots together. They also travelled many places around the world such as Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Alberta and throughout the United States, creating many lifelong friendships along the way. Veronica will be greatly missed by her Pomeranian dog, Maggie, who she spoiled for 11 years. Veronica was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Dora Buchik; two brothers and three sisters as well as her husband, John Daniels in 1997 following a lengthy illness in which Veronica cared for him for ten years. Veronica will be extremely missed and lovingly remembered by her children Brenda Veneruzzo (Louie), Jeanette Oja (Eldon), Robert Daniels, David Daniels, Brian Daniels (Sharon), Wayne Daniels (Debbie) and Betty Shaw (Wayne). Baba was blessed with 19 grandchildren: Jason Veneruzzo, Jennifer Veneruzzo and Jasmine Veneruzzo, Amanda Daniels, Chris Daniels and Jonathon Daniels, Curtis Knox, Conrad Oja and Cathy Oja, Jessie Daniels, Teri Loewen, Sarah Lehman and Shana Hajen, Lori Shaw, David Shaw, James Shaw and Deborah Shaw, Justin Daniels and Kristy Daniels. Veronica was also blessed with 33 great-grandchildren: Jaxon and Hayden Veneruzzo, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Joanna, Jarrod, Jessica and Kayla Oja, Tianna Bonet, Aaron, Autumn, Xena, Zoe and Summer Loewen, Tyler and Brooke Lehman, Alex, Braeden, Grace and Mackenzie Hajen, Tamara, James, Jessica and Natasha Laurenson, Hope, Faith, Isabella and Maximus Shaw, Jack Daniels, Seth, Jersey, Ryder and Gracie Daniels as well as 1 special great-great-grandchild, Atticus Bonet. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her and many surviving relatives. Cremation has taken place and respecting Veronica's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James. Veronica was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jasmine Veneruzzo in 2008, and she missed her dearly. In lieu of flowers, should family and friends so desire, memorial donations made in memory of Veronica to the Jasmine Veneruzzo Memorial Award Trust Fund would be greatly appreciated with a heart-warming thanks. Donations can be made to the Award's Trust Fund c/o Thunder Bay Catholic School Board or at infor@canadahelps.org THANK YOU A special thank you from the family to the First Responders, Dr. Lansdell and the nursing staff of the Emergency Department, Dr. Peeva and her resident Michael, Dr. Kisselgoff, the Manager of 2B Deb MacCabe and her excellent nursing staff, especially Amanada Carli (RN) at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. A special thank you to Dr. Stamler, who was Veronica's family doctor for 30 years before he retired, and too his assistant Pattie. Also to Dr. Noy, who has been a special part of our family for years and just recently took Veronica on as her patient. A special thank you to Red Cross Care Partners, Supervisors Faith Mauro, Pam Stefanato and PSW's who have been there for our family and Veronica for the last 5 years, with lots of compassion and endless support. Also to Sara in staffing for your excellent work. You will all be missed by our family. A special thank you to all of the staff at CCAC, especially Tina Barrera, Jessica Sharp and Nurse Practitioners Deb MacGoldrick and Calvin Pelletier for all of your support. Thank you to the VON, especially the Nurse Manager, Joan Wekner and her nursing staff, Jen Ninivirta, Heather Simons, Chris, Jocelyn, Rachel, Kelly, Kayla, Jamie and also to Meals on Wheels. A very special thank you to Veronica's neighbour, Dino Pugliefe and his family for many years of helping out at our mother's house and for looking out for her. We all really appreciate all you have done. Thank you as well to the Westfort Chapel and Sunset Memorial Gardens for their compassion at this difficult time. Lastly, a very special thank you to Veronica's grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Veneruzzo, who helped out tremendously with her care in the last 5 years. Also to Cathy Oja, who would fly in to Thunder Bay to help out when needed. Veronica's grandchildren Kaitlyn and Samantha Oja, while in town visiting, would go over and help out with her care to give us a break and you all gave her a lot of love at the same time. As I sit in heaven and watch you everyday I try and let you know with signs I never went away I hear you when you're laughing and watch you as you sleep I even place my arms around you to calm you as you weep I see you wish the days away begging to have me home So I try to send you signs so you know you are not alone Don't feel guilty that you have life that was denied to me Heaven is truly beautiful just you wait and see So live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, and be free Then I know with every breath you take You'll be taking one for me.
