Donald G. Anderson

Donald G. Anderson, 89, recent resident of the LaSalle Illinois Veteran’s Home, passed away Wednesday February 5, at St Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. Don was born on September 14, 1930, in Chicago, son of Gustav and Elsa (Pettersson) Anderson, both of whom emigrated from Sweden. He grew up in Chicago and lived almost all his life there and in the Villa Park & Elmhurst area. He attended Hyde Park High School, where he met his beloved Lita (Alcivar). After they were married, Don was drafted into the US Army and served with distinction. He was a Draftsman by trade and then worked at the Villa Park Bank after his “retirement”. He was a long-time member of the United Church of Christ, both in Chicago and Villa Park. He was very active in both churches, serving in various capacities, such as Sunday school teacher, Youth Leader, Liturgist, Financial Secretary and Technical Support. His passion, though, was recording and listening to Old Radio Shows from the ‘30’s & ‘40’s. He recorded and collected well over 2,000 cassette tapes! Don was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Lita, his sister Dorothy and her husband Bob, and a nephew Bobby. He is survived by his daughters, Sue (Jon) Graham, and Barbara (Ken) Innis; grandchildren Sarah, Anne, Tim, Peter, James, and Jessica; and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Community Congregational Church, 410 S Cornell Ave, Villa Park, IL 60181. A luncheon will follow in Stiffler Hall.
