Steve J. Kovach

Steven J. Kovach, age 71, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Steve was born on November 20, 1948 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late William F. Kovach Sr. and Annie M. (Petras) Kovach. Steve was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee. On August 7, 1971, Steve married Carol Walker, the love of his life in Granite City, IL. Steve owned and operated Steve’s Auto Body & Repair in Granite City, IL for many years. He was a member and Post Commander of V.F.W. Post 1300. He was also a member of Eagles Lodge 1126. Steve was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping and taking road trips with Carol. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Steve loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Julie Kovach. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-eight years, Carol Kovach of Granite City, IL; loving children, Angie Kovach of Granite City, IL and Mark (Whitney Sauerhage) Kovach of Granite City, IL; dear brothers, Jerry Kovach of San Diego, CA, John (Donna) Kovach of Granite City, IL and William (Beth) Kovach Jr. of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to Kylie Shipman; proud great-grandfather to Aiden Chamness; beloved aunt, Margaret Lochmann of Folsom, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with Rev. Charles West officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to V.F.W.
