Eileen Guthrie Obituary

Eileen McGowan Guthrie, 79 of Walpole, Maine, formerly of Annandale, New Jersey, passed away on the evening of January 18th, surrounded by loved ones at Chase Point Assisted Living in Damariscotta, Maine, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born on June 8, 1938 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, she was the daughter of John and Helen (Hueston) McGowan . Eileen was in the first 4 year graduating class of North Hunterdon Regional High School, graduated from Bates College, and had a long career as both a teacher and an administrative specialist at both AT&T and Lucent Technologies. After retirement, Eileen and her husband Elwin relocated from Clinton Township, New Jersey to Walpole, Maine. She enjoyed playing tennis, singing, playing the piano, entertaining, and keeping active with her lifelong college friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Mary Eick. Eileen is survived by her husband, Elwin A. Guthrie; four children, Thomas Guthrie and his wife Denise Blanchette, Susan Shareshian and her husband Paul Shareshian, Jack Guthrie, and Jill Watts and her husband Todd Watts; a sister, Jean Thackaberry; and 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Kat, Kelly, Molly, Jack, Charlie, and Emilia. Eileen will be laid to rest privately in the West Bristol Cemetery in the spring. Memorial services will be held in Maine and New Jersey.
