Katherine S. Rice Glenside, Pennsylvania Obituary

Katherine S. Rice

Known as Kathy to all, and Aunt Kathy to some, Katherine love the Lord with all her heart, mind, soul, and strength. The oldest of four siblings, she spent her formative years in Oreland, while the family relocated later to Warminster after the birth of little brother Steve. Many adventures were spent in Warminster with sister Linda, and brothers Steve and Charlie. From dangling from the rafters, to making sure that everyone got fed, Kathy was always there taking care of her siblings. She graduated from William Tennent High School in 1974. She pursued her passion for the sciences at Eastern College, graduating with a BA in Biology, cum laude in 1978. In 1979, Kathy started working at Rohm and Haas (later Dow), and roomed with her future sister-in-law Fiona. Kathy, while starting as a lab tech, continued her work at Rohm & Haas/Dow eventually achieving the role of research chemist with multiple United States patents to her name. She retired from Dow in 2016. Yet all of this would be considered as nothing to the great pleasure she had of serving her Lord in many different ministries. From being a youth group leader, to pioneer clubs, Sunday School Superintendent, singing in the choir and as a soloist, leading Bible studies, assisting with Vacation Bible School both at Glenside Bible Church and Grace Orthodox Presbyterian, her sister's home church in Middletown, DE, Kathy was known for her love of serving Christ and others. This love for serving others included supporting many ministries abroad, including being a founding board member of Rishana International, an orphanage in Nigeria. In the last year of her life, while battling many different illnesses, she was actively involved in two ladies Bible Studies, leading the Adult Sunday School class, and fundraising and advocating for Rishama. Kathy invested in her family and friends many times over, enriching their lives with her time and love. From Kamp Kathy, movie days, teaching nieces, nephews, and cousins how to craft and making sure that all her friends and family had what they needed or could get where they needed to go for love was felt in physical and tangible ways. After a year of several different illnesses, Kathy was finally called home to her Savior following a short battle with cancer. To the last a fighter, she showed courage to the end, slipping away in her own time 28 years to the day after her own father passed. She had run her race and kept the faith. She is survived by siblings, Linda (Robert), Stephen (Fiona), and Charles (Tracey), cousins, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Grace. The service will be made available via live link.
