Margaret Ackerman

Margaret, the only child of James & Alvina Pickett, was born on Fair Island. It was there she met & married her husband Howard Ackerman. Together they raised two daughters, Lorraine & Patricia. In 1959, Margaret & Howard moved their family up the bay to “the neck” and helped form the new community of Centreville. In 1961, when the terrible fire devastated much of Bonavista North, Margaret defied the evacuation order and after seeing the children had a safe haven, stayed behind because “someone had to cook for the men fighting the fire”. She remained very active in community activities throughout her life. Margaret loved her cards, darts, bingo, traveling, family and life in general. She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine & Patricia (Jerry), 2 grandchildren, Kerry (Tracy) & Jamie (Sherry), 6 greatgrandchildren, Drew, Tianna, Cruz, Tanya, Porshia and Natalya. Margaret will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
