It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Faye Zinck, 84 of First South announces her passing on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Crouse’s Settlement, she was the daughter of the late Earling and Mae (Weagle) Zinck. Doris started her working career as a waitress in restaurants in Chester and Lunenburg and then went on to work for many years in the payroll and accounting department of National Sea Products, Lunenburg retiring in 1988. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, First South where she was caretaker of the church for many years, a member of the ELW and supported the work of the church in any way she could. Active within her community, she was a volunteer at the Veteran’s Unit of the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Harbour View Haven and Palliative Care and assisted as a Handicap Aid on various school buses. Her love of life, family, friends and the community at large were so important to her. Doris’ quiet courage, strength of spirit, and sense of humour will be carried forward by all those who knew and loved her. Doris is survived by her husband, Geoffrey, daughters, Teena (John) Foscolos, Orlando, Florida; Sharon (Nick) Labrecque, Mahone Bay; Wanda (Scott) Joudrey, Bridgewater; sons, Richard (Janine) Knickle, Bridgewater; David (Lisa) Knickle, Maitland; sisters, Elva Conrad, First South; Marguerite (Gordon) Baker, Centre; brother, Herbert (Geraldine) Zinck, Centre; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Basil; sisters, Ruth, Eva, Barbara and brothers, Robert, Walton and Harold and brother-in-law, Stanley Chandler. Friends are invited to share their memories of Doris with her family during visitation on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Doris’ life will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, First South, Rev. Rick Pryce, officiating. Interment will be in the Lower Blue Rocks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, The Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Harbour View Haven or to the South Shore Palliative Care. www.sweenyfuneralhome.ca
