Lucy Johnson

Lucy Johnson LUCY MARIE JOHNSON, age 61 of Waseca, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca. Born in Worthington on August 31, 1958, Lucy was the daughter of Donald "Lefty" and Evangeline "Jane" (Wendt) Mariner.  After graduating from Waseca High School Lucy served in the United States Air Force, stationed in New York, Colorado, and California, working as a mechanic primarily on B-152 aircraft.  Her time in the service also gave her the opportunity to further her education at Regis University in Denver, CO.  Lucy was married to Robert Cassell II for several years before they separated.  She was later married to Russell Johnson for a time before they separated.  Although Lucy moved around during her time in the service and also spent time living in River Falls and Rochester, she always found her way back home to Waseca.  Years ago, she bred Doberman Pinschers and many of her animals were loved throughout the community.  After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Lucy began to make the most of her love for woodworking and her "Grey House" became known throughout town for selling birdhouses, crafts, and other art.  Lucy enjoyed washing rocks for her many works of art, woodworking – especially birdhouses, frequenting online auctions both as a buyer and seller, attending any and all gatherings of family and friends, and playing "Little Red" at the casino. Lucy is survived by three children, Kaitlynn "Brooke" Cassell of Waseca, Brian (Carlene) Clayton of Red Wing, and Robert "Bobby" Cassell III of Rochester; three siblings, Ginny Schroer of Waseca, Michael Mariner of Marathon, FL, and James (Laurie) Mariner of Waseca; her best friend, Chrissy Bathke of Waseca; and her beloved service dog, Little Bear, who has been fortunate to find a new "forever home".  She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Barbara Jellum; and one brother, Donald Mariner, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the State Street Chapel of Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services.  Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Private interment will take place at a later date.
