Billie Ruth Winstead, 85, of Johnston City, passed away at her family home at 3:30 a.m., Sunday, January 19, 2020 with her loving husband by her side. Billie Ruth was born November 28, 1934 in Carterville to James T. and Vera Mae (Lively) Phillips. She married John Clayton Winstead on October 24, 1969 in Cambria. Together they have shared fifty years of marriage. Billie Ruth was retired having been a secretary with the business she shared with her husband, J&D Heating and Air Conditioning. She had previously been a beautician for several years. She was also an agent for Duraplex. She was licensed to sell stocks and bonds. She attended the Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church. Billie Ruth loved to cook, sew and read her Bible. Billy Ruth and John enjoyed going church and worshiping their Lord. They also enjoyed going to antique car shows and flea markets together. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include husband Johnnie Winstead of Johnston City; five children, Eugenia (Bob) Dunning of Marion, Brad Jones of West Frankfort, LaRonda (Ed) Lambert of Crab Orchard, John D. (Chrissy) Winstead of Herrin and Melody (John) Stricklin of Crab Orchard; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Margaret) Phillips. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Vera Ruth Jones; one brother, Doug Phillips; two sisters, Violet Smith and Joann Adams. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Pyle Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
