Betty J. Shaffer

Betty Shaffer, 83, of Logansport, passed away at 3:14 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020, in Woodbridge Health Campus. Born March 23, 1936, in Niles, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lydia (Mills) James. On July 29, 1955, in Kokomo, she was married to William Gilbert Shaffer who preceded her in death May 9, 1991. Betty was a homemaker who loved her family dearly - her favorite activities revolved around her family. Whether a cook-out or a grandchild's ballgame, Betty was always ready to have fun. For the past two years, she made many new friends in the form of residents and caregivers at Woodbridge. Her family wants to express appreciation to them for the many kindnesses and loving care. A longtime member of the Logansport Church of the Brethren, Betty enjoyed spending time with friends in the two Bible study groups she attended. Betty was born with a green thumb and loved gardening. She was able to see the beauty in every little thing and God had blessed her with the artistic ability that allowed her to paint. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and George Lucy, Star City, and Sharon and Joe Shaver, Logansport; one brother, Richard Max (Elaine) James, Logansport; four sisters, Juanita Rhodenbaugh, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Judy McCann, Hardy, Arkansas, Teresa Bowen, Topeka, Kansas, and Wilma Armstrong, Marion, Indiana; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Anthony Shaffer; and seven siblings Val James, Arthur James, Dudley Black, Leona Albin, Lvoyd Nims and two infants. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 23 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Osborn officiating. Interment will follow in the Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22 in the funeral chapel and one hour prior to the service Thursday morning. .
