Sallie Hinton Laws Obituary

La Grange-Sallie Hinton Laws, 89, of La Grange, peacefully transitioned into the loving arms of her Savior in the early hours of Monday, January 14, 2020. Sallie was born in Johnston County to the late Marvin Hinton and Daisy Winstead Hinton on October 24, 1930. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-son, Jimmy Laws. Sallie was a Proverbs 31 lady through and through. She placed God first in her life, followed by her husband and family. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Walker United Methodist Church. Sallie’s love of her Lord was seen in all she did. With many years of service behind her, Sallie retired from her work at Cherry Hospital. It was there that she first met her husband, a fellow employee. Dwight knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that Sallie was the one for him. He told Sallie that he was going to marry her, and after a six-month courtship, he did just that. Sallie and Dwight were married for over 42 years and grew more in love with each other every day. The two together were always loving and kind to one another. Sallie was a collector of many things. From unicorns to spoons, and everything in between, Sallie enjoyed items that were unique. Of all of her collections, lighthouses were her very favorite. She and Dwight visited every lighthouse on the coasts of North and South Carolina, as well as many in Georgia and Florida. Dwight would research lighthouses for her, and Sallie would have them printed and placed in her collection books. Her greatest joy by far, was Sallie’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Grandma Sallie was perhaps her favorite role, as she loved to dote on her precious grandchildren. There was nothing better than having her family together. Though she will be sorely missed, her family takes great comfort in knowing that she now rests in the arms of Jesus. A service to remember and celebrate Sallie’s life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home, with Rev. Sherman Guthrie officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation in the hour before the service. Sallie is survived by her beloved husband and sweetheart, Dwight Laws; a son, Marty Whitley and wife, Martha Ann; four grandchildren, Ken Cottingham and wife, Lynn, Timmy Green and wife, Susan, Tammy Green Shelley and husband, Craig, and Leighanne Whitley Painter; nine great-grandchildren; and her two precious great-great-grandchildren, Colton Carnell and Anna Grace Case; three sisters, Della Carter, Joyce Shearer, and Gayle Parrish; and many nieces and nephews.
