Raymond R. Couture, born January 30, 1928 to the late Albert and Florence (Desjardin), passed away on January 11 surrounded by his loving family. He lived in the Aldenville section of Chicopee until 1963 then moved to Belchertown. After graduating from Cathedral High School Ray proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps at the end of World War II during the occupation and attained the rank of Corporal. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi church. In 1968 he started his own concrete construction company (Ray’s Concrete, Inc.) and retired in 1991. He enjoyed bowling, golf, reading, woodworking, and traveling. He and his wife Terry loved going on the road and drove cross country four times. Ray was also an avid gardener and a dedicated family man who was always there for his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his creativity and sense of humor.
Raymond leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Therese (LeBlanc) of 69 years, his children Christin and her husband William Hosie of Shelburne Falls, MA; Michael and his wife Cathy of Belmont, MA; James of Port Angeles, WA; and Bill and his wife Joanne of Malden, MA. Raymond was predeceased by son Richard and daughter Diane. Ray also leaves behind his grandchildren Caitlin and husband Jameson Wood, Jennifer and husband Saco Asadoorian, Michelle and husband Cristian Jimenez, Jeffrey, and great grandchildren Penelope and Mae.
Calling hours will be held Friday Jan. 17th from 4-7pm, with military honors to be rendered at 6:45 pm at the Beers & Story Funeral Home in Belchertown, 10 Maple St. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi church in Belchertown on Saturday Jan. 18 at 11 am. Please meet directly at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Saint Francis of Assisi Building Fund. Burial will be at the family's discretion.
