Dakota Edward Kersey Obituary
Dakota "Koda" Edward Kersey
2003 - 2019
Dakota Edward Kersey, 16, went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2019. He was born on July 13, 2003 to Jamie Kersey Sr. and Angela Green. From the time Koda entered this world, he knew exactly who he was and what he wanted. He was always so happy, easy-going, and lovable. He was always curious about everything, and would explore anything, anywhere. He looked at each day as a new adventured just waiting to be explored
From the time he woke up until the time he went to bed each day- he always had a huge smile on his face. His smile was so huge that it would light up the entire room as soon as I walked in. He loved to joke and poke fun with everyone. One of his mom’s favorite memories is when Koda was a toddler, and his mom would lay on the couch- the moment she would close her eyes, Koda would take the sink sprayer and spray her with it! He was also notorious for taking his mom’s wallet, keys, or anything of importance, and hiding them around the house- sometimes until his mom was hysterical, and then to “make it all better”, he would run and get whatever he decided to hide at that time, and bring it to her in order to cheer her up. He always wanted to keep a smile on everyone’s face. Anyone could ask him to do or help them with anything, and Koda would have bent over backwards to do what he could to help.
Koda was always a very intelligent young man. He went into kindergarten already knowing how to read, write, add and subtract. When middle school came along, he was accepted into the Beulah Academy of Science, where he made many strong friendships. This is where he found his love for band and playing the trumpet. During this time, he also participated in track, book club and drama club. As high school approached, he got accepted into the architectural engineering program at West Florida High School, however he ultimately decided that he wanted to join the US Air Force, so he transferred to Pensacola High School to join ROTC.
To cherish Koda’s memory, he leaves behind his mother- Angela Green; father- Jamie Kersey Sr.; brothers- Jamie Kersey Jr, and Shelton (Katherine) Kersey; sister- Tia (Kenneth) Frye; nieces- Skylar, Elaina, Elizabeth, and Victoria; nephews- Ken Jr. and Shelton Jr.; grandfather- Buddy Kersey; step-grandfather- James F. Myers; pappy- Alan Manns; grandmothers- Terry Green and Gail Welch (Myers); godmother- Misty (Jodie, Jarrad, Tristian, and Brendan) Creary; aunts- Tristica Green, Leesa Harris, Kristin Martin, Carol Swann, Joyce Kersey, Judy Kersey, Mary Nelson and Janas Marlow; uncles- David Swann, Ben Martin Sr, Shane Nelson, Joe Kersey, and Jimmy Kersey; cousins- Jonathon Nelson, Jeremy Phillips, DJ Stennett, Dillon Kersey, Bobby Jo Kersey, Wilder Kersey, Ryan Kersey, Douglas Kersey, Cameron Marlow, Chelsea Marlow, Heather Hootman, Mathew Kersey, Howard Francis and wife, C.B. Francis, Robert Durden Jr., Brianna Martin, Brookelynn Martin, Baylee Martin, and Ben Martin Jr., Charles Swann, Davy Swann, Amanda Swann, Michael Swann, and Sebastion Harris; along with many friends that loved and cherished him.
