Patrick Dorr, M.D.

Dr. Humphrey Patrick (Paddy) Dorr, 87, died at The Nottingham in Syracuse on 30 December 2019 after a long illness. Paddy was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1932. His parents were John Dorr and Clara Hunter. Paddy attended McGill University in Montreal Canada where he studied medicine and also obtained a bachelor and a master’s degree in science. In 1956, he married his teenage sweetheart Grace Nanette Dorr and they decided to remain in Montreal. Paddy began his career as physician as a general practitioner in Ontario before returning to Montreal to take up a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Paddy and Nan loved living in Montreal where they raised their family. In 1979, Paddy and Nan moved to Syracuse where Paddy joined PHP Health Centers to lead their Ob/Gyn practice. Paddy and Nan were devoted and loving parents to their three children and their partners, David (Cindy), James (Anthea) and Alison (Chris) and their grandchildren and their partners Jennifer, Heather (Coral), Nikka, Dayla, Darcy, Alix and Zephyr. In 2009, Nan sadly died leaving Paddy a widower. Fortunately, he found love again with Gelene Lewis and they married in 2013. Gelene, her son Chip and his wife, Janet, became Paddy's family in Syracuse. Gelene has been a devoted and loving wife to Paddy and provided great comfort and companionship to him especially in the last difficult year of his life. Paddy is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Andrea Hopwood, Jean Dorr and Liz Hopwood as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Dementia Society of America. Paddy and the love, wisdom and caring he shared with all those who knew him will remain in our thoughts and our hearts always. May his memory be a blessing. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
