Americo Pinto Pereira Newark, New Jersey Obituary

Americo Pinto Pereira

On December 30, 2019, on a rainy Monday afternoon, a man with so much love in his heart left this world. Americo Pinto Pereira was born in São Lourenço do Douro, Marco de Canaveses, concelho do Porto, Portugal on November 29, 1949. He was 70 years old. Americo was raised in Portugal until the age of 14 when his family then began their journey to the US, settling in Newark, NJ. Upon his arrival, he worked almost immediately, as a boy, at Johnny’s Fruits and Vegetables, a business that he later owned and ran for over 25 years. It was a landmark in the Ironbound community until he closed its doors in the 1990s. He continued his career in produce working for Seabra’s Supermarket until his retirement in 2017. Americo was a pillar of the Portuguese American community, always speaking lovingly about his homeland while also being completely in love with his new home. He had great respect for people who immigrated to the US and worked hard. He was the first to offer help to anyone in need, never forgetting his difficult childhood and believing in his heart that everyone deserved a chance at success and happiness. Americo was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan and avid lover of all sports. Deeply patriotic, he loved America and devoted much of his time to its history and politics. He became a loving grandfather to his two grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Aurea Vieira (née Falorca) who selflessly cared for and comforted him during his most difficult time. He is also survived by his two grief stricken daughters, Natalie and Amanda, his son-in-law Paul, and the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Miles and Maxime. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Maria, Lisa, Tina, Joe, Tony and Manny as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He has now transitioned and is in the loving embrace of his parents, Ana and Joaquim Pereira, and his sister and brother Rosa and Mario. Visitation for Americo will be held on Friday, January 3rd from 5 - 8 pm at Buyus Funeral Home 426 Lafayette St., Newark, NJ. The Funeral for Americo will be held on Saturday, January 4th at 9 am, Service will be held at 9:45 am at Buyus Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, www.pancan.org, would be greatly preferred to help battle this terrible disease.
