Barbara Jean Stalvey McDonald, 88, of Hahira died Monday, December 30, 2019 at South Georgia Medical Center, She was born August 7, 1931 in Hahira to the late George M. Stalvey and Mary Lehman Stalvey and was a life long resident of Hahira. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Hahira First Baptist Church. She Graduated from Hahira High School in 1948. Mrs. McDonald began her career working at Commercial Banking Company and also Citizens Community Bank of Hahira before becoming the school secretary at Hahira Elementary School and retired after 34 years of dedicated service. She ended her long working career back at Citizens Community Bank. In the summers, Mrs. McDonald managed the Hahira Lions Club pool for many years where she was a “mother” to all those who enjoyed the pool. She was a member of the Hahira Garden Club and Hahira Supper Club. She enjoyed the Senior Citizens Luncheons at the Hahira Methodist Church and doing word searches. Mrs. McDonald was a lady full of life and wisdom and enjoyed telling a good story. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann McDonald Exum of Hahira, Nancy McDonald Purvis and Scott Purvis of Valdosta; three granddaughters, Amy Exum Luke and Klay Luke of Hahira, Allison Exum Fowler and Cade Fowler of Hahira, and Maggie Anna Purvis of Valdosta; two great grandchildren, John Klayton Luke of Hahira and Mackson Brewer Fowler of Hahira; Sister-in-law Chris Wierer of Crestview, Florida; her nieces, Mary Sue Harris and Lyn Stalvey both of Hahira, Sonya Stalvey Cooner and David Cooner of Dothan, Alabama, Keana Stalvey Andress and Greg Andress of Union, Kentucky, Leslie McDonald Goolsby of Hahira, her nephews, Don and Vicki Stalvey of Mobile, Alabama, Kennon and Cindy Stalvey of Crestview, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Brewer McDonald, Jr.; her nephew George Harrell Stalvey, two brothers, Leroy Stalvey and Kennon Stalvey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Hahira United Methodist Church with the Rev. Klay Luke and the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira.
