West Branch, Iowa Herbert Joseph “Joe” Oxley was born August 15, 1956 and entered eternal life on December 30, 2019. Joe requested a private family service be held that will include the Order of Christian Funeral and interment at the Downey Cemetery. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch is caring for the family. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. He was a graduate of West Branch High School in 1974. Joe served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation and was a member of the local American Legion. Joe was a lifelong member of St Bernadette’s Catholic Church in West Branch and frequently attended Mass regularly at St. Joseph’s in West Liberty on Sunday Mornings. When he was physically unable to attend Mass, he was sure to meet his obligation by watching Mass on EWTN. Joe enjoyed listening to sports events on the radio and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes & Chicago Cubs. He is lovingly survived by his mother Julia, sisters Monica (Raul), Rose, & Laura (Joe), brothers James (Ruth), Brian (Connie), Timothy (Rachel), Marcus (Kari), and John (Dawn) and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his father Herbert, sister Janella, brother Kevin, sister-in-law Terri and niece Jennifer. Joe wished to thank the Iowa City Veterans Affairs & the Cedar County Visiting Nurses for their compassionate health care.
