James Gregory "Groovin" Carlock Obituary

James Gregory “Groovin” Carlock, 70, of Pana passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at his home. He was born May 18, 1949 in Pana, son of William & Mary (Waddington) Carlock. Greg married Leigh Ann Philhart on May 30, 2006 in Taylorville and she survives. Greg lived his entire life in Pana and was a graduate of Pana High School. He served in the National Guard and then was the owner & operator of Alice’s Restaurant in Nokomis. He enjoyed road trips, ghost hunting & covered bridges. He was a very talented musician and played in several bands. He started the Oglethorpe & Othelow Band and ended with the Edsel’s. In addition to his wife, Greg is survived by his children: James N. Carlock, Fairview Heights, IL; Lindsay Carlock, Sarasota, FL; Carmen Carlock, Pana, IL; Christopher Ray Austin, Rosamond, IL & Timothy Ray (Cristyn) Austin, Pana, IL; 12 grandchildren and sister, Patty (Loren) Glasscock, Oreana, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, William Carlock; mother, Mary (Waddington) Baker; step father, Harold Baker and siblings: Jean Redmon, Phyllis Hunter, Marge Kramer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery, Rosamond with military rites accorded by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home. Memorials in Greg's honor may be made to St. John’s Hospice and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
