Don McManus

Don E. McManus Hornell Don E. McManus, 91, of Hart Street, passed away Wednesday (December 25, 2019) at Keuka Comfort Care in Penn Yan. Born in Hornell, March 14, 1928, the son of Earl Louis and Hilda Kromer McManus, he had resided in Hornell nearly all his life. Don was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1946 and received his civil engineering degree from Purdue University in 1953. He had been employed as a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell for 33 years. Don was a member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church, the Christian Businessman’s Association and was a long time member of the board of directors at the Hornell Rural Cemetery Association. Don honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during WW-2, from September 1946 until July 1948. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. He also served overseas in Korea. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife; Betty Askins McManus and his second wife; Dena Pelton McManus, his sister; Sandra O’Heron, and his brother; David McManus. He is survived by his daughter; Donna (David) Woolever of Hornell, his sons; William (Kathy) McManus of Baldwinsville, Stephen E. McManus of Hornell and Timothy (Anna Marie) McManus of Hornell, his brother; Daniel (Kathy) McManus of Hornell, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
