<p>Mrs. Norma Sheffield Braden, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2026, after a short illness.</p><p><br></p><p>Norma was born in Savannah, Georgia on December 18, 1931, daughter of the late Robert Sheffield and the late Marjorie Woodruff Sheffield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Biddy Hill Braden, July 2016, her brother, Robert W. Sheffield, and her sister, Marjorie Gardner.</p><p><br></p><p>Norma graduated from Savannah High School and the University of Georgia, in 1951, with a bachelor of science degree in Home Economics, where she met the love of her life. She and Biddy were married on May 20, 1955. They returned to Rome, Georgia after Biddy was honorably discharged from the Army.</p><p><br></p><p>Mrs. Braden was a homemaker and a very active member in her church and community. She was known for her fabulous meals and wonderful cakes. She was a faithful and founding member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and served him with gladness. She played the organ and piano proudly there for 50 years. She also served as President of the following clubs: Spade and Trowel Garden Club, The Darlington Mother’s Club, The Floyd County HomeMakers Club and Council, unity Home Demonstration Club, and the Rome Christian Women’s Club.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include a daughter, Pam McAbee, and her husband, Terry, Rome; two sons, Mark Braden and his wife, Margaret, Rome and Douglas Braden, and his wife, Tammie, Inlet Beach, FL; her grandchildren who she loved dearly, Ben McAbee (Leah, Kimberly M. Gunby (Travis), Elise B. Baswell (Brandon), Emily Braden, Biddy Braden (Emily), Annabelle Braden, and Georgia Grace Braden; step-grandsons, Luke Gober and the late Evan Gober; four great grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11am at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Mr. Steve Johnston officiating. Private interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.</p><p><br></p><p>The family will receive friends at Henderson &amp; Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 3 until 5pm.</p><p><br></p><p>Honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Monday at 10:30am and include Steve Brewster, Bill Cummings, Kris Crider, Andy Cash, Matt Plant, Lou Dempsey, and Morgan Lawson.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to express their gratitude and thankfulness for Mrs. Braden’s caregivers: Erin, Wendy, and Delores. She loved them and they always treated her with respect, kindness, and dignity.</p><p><br></p><p>Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 1649 Cartersville Highway, SE, Rome, GA 30161.</p><p><br></p><p>Henderson &amp; Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Norma Sheffield Braden.</p><p><br></p>
