He proudly graduated from LaVergne High School in 1991. After graduation, Brian took a Greyhound bus west of the Mississippi River for the first time to attend Ricks College in Rexburg, ID. After a year at Ricks College, he served a mission in Fresno, CA for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spoke fondly of his mission and told many stories about laboring in "The Lord's Vineyard".

After his mission, Brian returned to Ricks College, where he met his beloved wife, Lynette Cheney of West Bountiful, UT, in Economics class. They were married on May 11, 1996 in the Salt Lake Temple. Although from different worlds, Brian and Lynette knew they were meant for each other and developed an inseperable bond over their 29 years of marriage. He often spoke of how he knew Lynette was taking a chance on him, and was very glad she did.

Brian and Lynette transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, UT where Brian obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degree in accountancy. Brian enjoyed his career as a CPA and consultant working for a multi-national accounting firm. He was very proud to spend over 25 years with the same company. Brian enjoyed his many professional opportunities; but even more, he enjoyed mentoring others and making many friends along the way.

Brian was a devoted husband and father and very proud of his family and considered them his greatest accomplishment. He loved spending time with them on annual vacations exploring different beaches or spending time in the mountains of Virginia off-roading or soaking in mineral pools, which he surprisingly enjoyed.

Brian grew up playing multiple sports from a young age and was a passionate BYU Cougar fan and a fan of almost all sports. He shared his love of sports with his family by coaching many of his children's sports teams, even for those sports he had never played before, and by attending many collegiate sporting events with them, many of which were memorable road trips. Brian also shared his love of music with his family. He never missed an opportunity to play songs from his favorite artists for his kids out of the blue or while in the car. Brian took up guitar during the COVID pandemic and wished he would have done so earlier in life. He enjoyed playing songs he was learning for his family, and tried to learn songs they enjoyed. Brian also enjoyed gathering the family together to watch their favorite TV shows.

In addition to having a fun-loving, jovial, and easy going personality, Brian was serious about sharing his passion for education with his family and served as a mentor to them in many aspects of life. Being a first-generation college graduate, he stressed the importance of education to his children and supported them any way possible to ensure their educational success, from which college to attend or major to choose to very extensive planning of dorm rooms, he was organized and methodical and created elaborate spreadsheets for everything. He wanted to pass along a legacy of learning, and did that and more.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Lynette, and their children Abby (Roberto) Diaz, Brooke Perkins, Trevor Perkins, and Cassidy Perkins. He is survived by his siblings Tammy (Tim) Nunn of Jonesboro, LA, Sherry (David) Weeks of Quitman, LA, Troy (Linda) Perkins of Oklahoma City, OK, Ritchie (Donna) Perkins of Murfreesboro, TN, and Janeesa Payton of Thornton, IA .

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and again Saturday, January 10th from 10:00am to 11:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 21015 Claiborne Parkway, Ashburn, VA 20147, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 11:00 am. Graveside services will immediately follow at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA
