With great sadness, we share that our dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather, Robert Glenn Pennett, passed away on October 23, 2025, at the age of 80, after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Glenn will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 55 years, Catherine Gail (nee Coster), and his devoted children, Amanda (Rob McNaught), Melissa (Dwayne Dueck), and Brett (Heather Matheson). Pappy will deeply missed by his five grandchildren, of whom he was extremely proud, Zachary, Cameron, Sarah, Elwood, and Gus. Pappy always made time to attend their sporting events, fine arts performances, and cheer on their every accomplishment.

Glenn was born in East York, Ontario, on August 19, 1945, to Leo Patrick Joseph and Vera Wilson (nee Sergeant) Pennett. He grew up in Agincourt, Ontario (now part of northeast Toronto), with his 3 siblings, Patricia (Frank Sardellitti), Wayne (Judy McClung), and Grace (Lloyd Dallard). In high school, Glenn met the love of his life, Cathy, and they married in 1970. They enjoyed a large social circle, and Glenn coached for the Toronto Red Wings AAA Hockey Club and sang with the East York Barbershop Chorus. In 1975, they moved to Calgary to start their family. They began attending Properties Baptist Church and Glenn joined the Stampede City Barbershop Chorus, performing in the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show.

Glenn’s day job was Chartered Professional Accountant, mostly under his own shingle. From 2010-2017 he was Business Manager for the Calgary Police Association (CPA). For decades he was a referee for Ringette Calgary, Hockey Calgary, and numerous recreational leagues (including the Calgary Police rec league), and a fastpitch and slowpitch umpire with Softball Canada, Slowpitch National, and Calgary Umpires Association. He and Cathy travelled to Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Cuba many times to umpire tournaments and deliver duffle bags of ball equipment and school supplies.

Glenn’s true passion was people and serving his community. He coached his kids’ ringette and hockey teams and volunteered for many community sports associations and school-parent councils. He was a beloved Santa for Shamrock Seniors Christmas Fund deliveries, CPA Family Christmas parties, and other charitable organizations. He was also a dedicated Team Host for Mac’s Midget AAA International Hockey Tournament, infield support for First Responders Rodeo, and a committed long-time donor with Canadian Blood Services. His most treasured role was with Calgary Police Service Volunteer Resource Unit Special Projects Team, which started as volunteer security with CPS for the 1988 Winter Olympics and developed into Glenn assisting CPS with numerous and varied special projects for over 35 years.

Glenn lived life to the fullest, working to make every event special, fun, and memorable. He loved music and attended many live shows and country music festivals. He and Cathy also loved to travel and cruise, especially to New Orleans. Glenn was predeceased by his sister, Pat, and brothers-in-law, Frank and Lloyd. He will be fondly remembered in the hearts of his family and countless friends.

A Celebration of Glenn’s Life will be held at Centre Street Church Central Campus (3900 – 2 Street NE, Calgary) on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00am.

For those unable to attend in person, the service will be Livestreamed through the link below.

http://cschurch.ca/pennett

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KidsPlay Youth Foundation, or to plant a tree in memory of Glenn.
