Shelly M. Avery was born on May 29, 1970, the beloved daughter of Sharion Avery of Maryland, and Roger and Merlyn Avery of Florida. She was the cherished granddaughter of the late Mary “Grannie” Avery of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Hale of California. Shelly was deeply adored by her siblings Shannon, Maria, Rochelle, Kaylee, and Roger.

Shelly was truly a gift from God — a light and a blessing to all who knew her. She embodied pure love, joy, and grace, reminding us daily of God’s presence among us. To our family, she was one of His angels on Earth — a “little bit of God” who taught us compassion, patience, and unconditional love. Shelly never knew a stranger, she had the most infectious laugh especially when she tried to “tickle” you, or come up and say “Boo, gotcha!” to try and scare you. On the other side of that if she didn’t like you, you knew it! Shelly was stubborn and determined when she wanted to do something, or not do something she would dig in and she always won.

As it is written in Psalm 139:13-14, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Shelly, you were indeed wonderfully made — a living testament to God’s perfect design.

Though Down syndrome is a medical condition, our family always saw in Shelly a divine purpose. She was a precious reminder that God’s creations come in many beautiful forms. We feel profoundly blessed to have been your parents, brother, and sisters, Shelly Monique.

Today, we find peace knowing that you are reunited with your beloved Grannie Avery, dining at the Lord’s table in eternal joy.

We will love you forever.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, from 11am-1pm. A procession to Greenlawn Cemetery for burial will follow at 1:30pm.
