He was born on October 24, 1951, in Chicago, IL, to Sylvester and Willie Jones, and his life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy.<br></p><p><br></p><p>At 73, John leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted partner of 45 years, Brenda Lawrence, who stood by his side through life's journeys. He is also mourned by his sisters, Lillian Freeman, Edna Williams, Wanda Myers, Gwendolyn Jones, and his brothers, Velestal and Keith Jones. His grandchildren, Shakir Johnson and Christopher Lawrence, along with his dear friend Matthew Kelly, will carry forward the cherished memories of their time with him.</p><p><br></p><p>John was a proud graduate of Fender High School in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and a deep sense of community. Throughout his life, he filled his days with hobbies that brought him joy and connected him to those around him. Whether it was enjoying some basketball, crafting beautiful pieces through woodworking, or delighting his family with his culinary skills, John approached every passion with enthusiasm and dedication.</p><p><br></p><p>He was known for his generosity and infectious laughter, qualities that drew people to him and created lasting bonds. His barbecues were legendary, where family and friends gathered to enjoy good food and even better company. John had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, and his legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire those who knew him.</p><p><br></p><p>As we remember John, we celebrate a well-lived life dedicated to family, friendship, and the joys of everyday moments.
